Ingredients

For the brownies:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

For decorating:

  • Green frosting
  • Holiday sprinkles
  • Small candies for the top
  • Candy canes optional, for the base of each tree

Instructions

1. Bake the brownies

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a metal baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  • Mix the batter. Combine the butter, sugars, eggs, and vanilla. Add the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir until smooth.
  • Pour the batter into the pan and spread it evenly.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes. Check the center with a toothpick. A few moist crumbs are fine.
  • Let the brownies cool fully in the pan. This step matters. Warm brownies crumble when you cut them.
  • TIP : If you need very clean slices, put the cooled brownies in the fridge for 20 minutes.

2. Cut the brownies into trees

  • Lift the brownies out of the pan using the parchment paper.
  • Trim off the edges if they’re very crisp.
  • Cut the brownies into long strips. Make the strips the same width.
  • Cut each strip into triangles. You can make them small or large depending on how many servings you want.
  • If the brownie sticks to the knife, wipe the blade between cuts.

3. Decorate the brownies

  • Fill a piping bag or a zip-top bag with green frosting.
  • Pipe zig-zag lines across each triangle. Start wide at the bottom and narrow at the top.
  • Press sprinkles into the frosting.
  • Add a small candy at the top to act as a star.
  • If you want a tree trunk, break small candy canes and stick one piece into the bottom of each triangle.
  • Let the frosting set before stacking or packing the brownies.

  • Use a serrated knife for cleaner cuts of the brownie triangles.
  • Perfect for holiday parties, gifts, or festive dessert tables.
