Ingredients

  • 1 large can 29 oz of sliced peaches in syrup or juice
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup butter 1 stick, melted
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon optional
  • A pinch of salt

Optional toppings:

  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream
  • A sprinkle of brown sugar or nutmeg before baking

Ingredient tips:

  • If you don’t have self-rising flour mix 1 cup all-purpose flour with 1½ teaspoons baking powder and ¼ teaspoon salt.
  • Peaches in syrup make the cobbler sweeter and more flavorful but you can use peaches in juice if you prefer less sugar.

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat and Prep

  • Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and put it in the oven. Let the butter melt while the oven heats up.
When melted, remove the dish from the oven and set it aside.

Step 2: Mix the Batter

  • In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and milk. Stir until smooth. It’s fine if there are a few small lumps. Don’t overmix — the texture will still come out perfect.
Add a pinch of salt and cinnamon if you like.

Step 3: Layer the Batter and Peaches

  • Pour the batter over the melted butter in the dish. Don’t stir.Spoon the canned peaches (with syrup) evenly over the batter. The layers will mix slightly while baking and create a soft, sweet crust.

Step 4: Bake

  • Place the dish in the oven. Bake for 40–45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crisp around the edges.
The syrup will bubble up through the crust — that’s exactly what you want.

Step 5: Cool and Serve

  • Let the cobbler cool for at least 10 minutes. The filling will thicken as it cools. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

📝 Notes

  • Use Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes for the creamiest texture.
  • Grate your own cheese for smoother melting and better flavor.
  • For extra richness, stir in a spoonful of sour cream before serving.
  • Replace bacon with turkey bacon or omit for a vegetarian version.
  • Simmer gently to prevent the milk or cream from curdling.
  • Top with shredded cheese, crumbled bacon, and chopped green onions.
  • Leftovers thicken as they sit—add a splash of milk when reheating.
  • Store in an airtight container up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
