Ingredients
  

  • Frozen pierogi Potato and cheese are classic but you can use any flavor.
  • Smoked sausage or kielbasa Adds savory flavor and pairs well with pierogi.

  • Sour cream Makes the casserole creamy.
  • Shredded cheese Cheddar or mozzarella both work.
  • Butter Adds richness to the sauce.
  • Salt and pepper Basic seasoning.

Instructions  

Step 1: Cook the Sausage and Onions

  • Slice sausage into bite sized pieces. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Add the chopped onion and garlic. Stir until the onion softens.

Step 2: Prepare the Baking Dish

  • Grease a 9×13-Inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray. Spread half of the frozen pierogi in an even layer.

Step 3: Layer the Casserole

  • Top the pierogi with half the sausage and onion mixture. Add a few spoonfuls of sour cream and sprinkle with shredded cheese. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.

Step 4: Bake

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake another 10 minutes until the cheese melts and bubbles.

Step 5: Serve

  • Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions if you like. Serve warm with a side salad or roasted vegetables.
