Ingredients

  • Red velvet cake: 1 9-inch layer cake, baked and cooled, or about 4 cups of cake cubes (homemade, boxed, or store-bought)
  • Cream cheese: 8 oz 225 g, softened
  • Powdered sugar: 1 cup 120 g
  • Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon 5 ml
  • Heavy cream: 1 cup 240 ml, cold, whipped to stiff peaks
  • Optional toppings: ¼ cup cake crumbs 2 tablespoons white chocolate curls, or mini heart sprinkles

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Cake

  • Bake a 9-inch red velvet cake according to your recipe, or use a store-bought cake.
  • Let the cake cool completely.
  • Cut the cake into 1-inch cubes (about 4 cups).

Step 2: Make the Cheesecake Filling

  • In a large bowl, beat 8 oz (225 g) softened cream cheese until smooth.
  • Add 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, then beat again until fully combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup (240 ml) cold heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  • Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture. This makes a light, creamy cheesecake layer.

Step 3: Layer the Trifle

  • Use a clear glass bowl or individual cups for the trifle.
  • Start with a layer of cake cubes at the bottom.
  • Spread a layer of cheesecake filling over the cake cubes.
  • Repeat the layers (cake → cheesecake filling) until the bowl is full.
  • End with a layer of cheesecake filling or whipped cream on top.

Step 4: Add Toppings

  • Sprinkle ¼ cup cake crumbs, white chocolate curls, or mini hearts over the top.
  • Optional: Add a few fresh berries for color.
