Ingredients

For the Spaghetti:

  • 12 oz spaghetti pasta
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage optional
  • 3 cups marinara or spaghetti sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Garlic Bread Bowl:

  • 1 large round loaf of bread sourdough or Italian boule works best
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Optional Add-Ins:

  • Red pepper flakes
  • Fresh basil
  • Sliced olives or sautéed mushrooms

Instructions

1. Cook the Spaghetti

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add spaghetti and cook according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

2. Prepare the Sauce

  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef or sausage and cook until browned. Drain excess fat. Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–10 minutes, then add cooked spaghetti and toss to coat evenly.

3. Make the Garlic Butter

  • In a small bowl, mix melted butter, minced garlic, and chopped parsley. Set aside.

4. Hollow the Bread

  • Cut the top off the loaf and carefully hollow out the center, leaving about a 1-inch thick shell. Save the removed bread for dipping or breadcrumbs.

5. Brush and Bake the Bread Bowl

  • Place the hollowed bread on a baking sheet. Brush the inside and edges with garlic butter. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 10–12 minutes until lightly toasted.

6. Fill with Spaghetti

  • Remove the bread bowl from the oven and fill it with the prepared spaghetti. Top with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

7. Bake Until Cheesy

  • Return to the oven and bake for another 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the bread is golden brown.

8. Serve

  • Garnish with fresh basil or parsley. Slice into wedges and serve hot, letting everyone scoop spaghetti and tear off garlic bread as they go.

Notes

📝 Notes

  • Use a round sourdough or Italian bread loaf to create a sturdy garlic bread bowl.
  • Spaghetti marinara or meat sauce both work—choose based on preference.
  • Brush the bread with garlic butter and bake until golden for maximum flavor.
  • Add mozzarella or parmesan cheese on top for a melty, cheesy finish.
  • Hollow out the bread carefully to avoid breaking the bowl structure.
  • Serve immediately while the bread is crisp and the pasta is hot.
  • Store leftover pasta separately in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat pasta on the stove or microwave; fresh bread bowls are best made same day.
